You've been admitted to a French university. You're preparing your student visa file from abroad. Why the loop exists

• The visa file requires a housing proof for your first months in France (France-Visas lists it among the supporting documents).
• Signing a lease typically requires a French guarantor, a deposit, sometimes a French bank account, and often a physical visit.
• Getting any of those requires being in France… which requires the visa.

The system quietly assumes you have family in France or can fly over to house-hunt. Most international students have neither.

Option 1: a host attestation (if you know someone in France)

If a relative or friend legally residing in France can host you, they can write an attestation d'hébergement, a signed statement that you will live at their home, accompanied by their ID and a recent proof of address.
